I slept for almost eleven hours. Man, do I feel better. Well, mostly. At least, I'm not tired anymore. ::nods:: The seas have been choppy the last few days, but I'm doing my best not to over-worry (which I tend to do these days).
The Fiance's childhood cat has either a serious infection or kidney and liver cancer. He's home now, on antibiotics and eating and meowing and doing the things cats do, but any good thoughts you guys could send his way would be really, really appreciated. We just have to wait and see how he does.
But? I also wanted to say huge thank yous to whomever nominated me at the Running with Scissors Awards. I have an inkling who it was (*G*), but just in case I'm wrong I wanted to say it here! |

Why can't I get my shit together lately? I'm all scattered and confused! I'm not kidding, guys, this is ridiculous. Okay, so, I need my birth certificate, so I sent off to the Floridia office of Vital Statistics to get it it. Good, right? Nope, I forgot to include a photocopy of my state ID. Right, no problem. They sent everything back, so I re-did it all--included a copy of my state ID--and shipped it off again. You know what I realized this morning? I forgot to include a check to pay for the birth certificate.
::headdesk:: And? ::headdesk again:: Okay, so now it's all sent off (again) and I'm paranoid that I left something out and they're going to think I'm crazy. Which, of course, I'm worried isn't far off the mark because? What if they think I'm trying to steal my own identity?!?! OMG, I'm totally paranoid. ::laughs at self:: Still, it shouldn't take anyone three tries to fill out a form, copy an id, and write a check. ::hangs head:: |

So far today I've a) spent time with my mother, b) failed to write anything on my cya_ficathon fic (due on the 15th), c) totally failed to find any trace of my birth certificate (which I will need soon!), and d) learned how to make a battery using saltwater. Um, yeah. I should be writing. |

I hate the term 'refugee'. I hate it, hate it, hate it. You know how to make someone running from a disaster feel like shit? Call them a refugee: it all at once reminds them of the disaster and says “you don't belong here.” It's awful. And, while I know that's not what most people mean when they use it, it is what a surprising number of people mean. |

I have curly hair!! *G* My hair has always been so straight and fine that it refused to do shit. The one time I permed it, it . . . didn't go well. *G* But? I finally found a way to rag curl it that makes it all curly and cute! ::bounces:: Er, yeah, I am absurdly excited about this, but if you'd been dealing with my hair, you probably would be, too. ::bounces more::

Hey all! I have spent the day catching up on fic, because I was ages behind and now I have some lovely, lovely things to rec! I hope you like them as much as I do!
Five Men Xander Kissed Before by soft_princess: Giles/Xander, FRT/pg-13: I love this fic! It's told with multiple drabbles (a look at the name probably already told you that) and it's not very long (only about a 1,000 words), but despite that it's got so much depth. You can see Xander growing up with every drabble, which I just love!
Same Time Next Week by cordelianne: Giles/Xander, pg-13/FRT: This is a really lovely story, with sweet moments, funny moments and a few sad moments. It begins just after The Gift, and I can so see it happening just this way!
Sleep While I Drive by mireille719: Giles/Xander, Irregularly updated Indulgence Fic: I post this just in case there's someone on my flist who both likes Giles/Xander and hasn't heard about this wonderful fic. It's a long shot, but I figure I had best be thorough. And I love this fic! The voices are wonderful, and the story is just . . . It's *so* good, I'm having trouble telling you how good, so go and read it already. *G*

| Thinky Thoughts About Writing and Conversation |

I've been interested in dialogue and conversation, lately, especially conversational conventions in different parts of the country and the world, and how they meet and what role that plays in writing and dialogue (yeah, I know, writing thoughts. Big surprise). So, what conversational pet peeves do you guys have? Or do you have any at all? What about dialogue pet peeves? Do you find that you talk to different people differently? For instance, if you were talking to a very close friend and then a third person that you know, but not as well as the first person, enters the conversation, does the conversation change? I mean more than just the addition of new topics, does the way you speak change?
For instance, I realized that I don't tend to ask people questions. It feels rude, unless I know the person well-ish. And I'm not talking about personal questions, or even contraversial opinion type questions, just . . . "So, what are your hobbies?" kind of questions. Instead, I tend to tell people about myself, as an invitation for them to tell me about themself. (The problem is, I think some people construe that as rude, and possibly narcissistic. *G*)
